What my readers are reading just now

My passion for storytelling drives every word I write. Each book is a journey, an adventure waiting to be discovered by you. From thrilling narratives to thought-provoking plots, I invite you to explore the diverse range of my literary creations.

For thirty years, Rome’s greatest enemy ruled the Mediterranean—not an empire, not an army, but pirates. Thousands of them. Operating from hidden Cilician strongholds, they strangled Rome’s grain supply, enslaved her citizens, and mocked her power. The Senate was paralyzed. Commanders failed. The Republic faced starvation.

Then came Pompey the Great.

In 67 BCE, the Senate granted one man unprecedented authority: supreme command of the entire Mediterranean, unlimited resources, and a mandate to destroy piracy forever. What followed was a military campaign unlike anything the ancient world had witnessed—a three-month lightning offensive that systematically trapped and annihilated an enemy that had seemed invincible.

But victory came at a price. By giving Pompey the power to save Rome, the Senate had created something far more dangerous than any pirate fleet. They had created a man who could never be controlled.

Pirates and Power is the epic story of how Rome defeated its greatest maritime threat—and how that victory planted the seeds of the Republic’s destruction.

Pirates and Power: Rome Against Cilicia

When a king falls from his horse, a kingdom falls into chaos—and three souls must choose between love and loyalty in Scotland’s darkest hour.

1286: King Alexander III’s mysterious death plunges Scotland into a succession crisis that will ignite a brutal forty-year war for independence. As English King Edward I—the Hammer of the Scots—moves to conquer and subjugate an entire nation, unlikely heroes rise from the bloodshed.

William Wallace, a minor knight, becomes a legendary warrior whose victory at Stirling Bridge inspires a nation. Robert the Bruce, an ambitious noble torn between self-preservation and patriotism, must murder his rival and claim a crown he may not survive to wear. And Isabella Stewart, a Scottish noblewoman in love with an English knight, faces an impossible choice as war tears her world—and her heart—apart.

From the triumph of Bannockburn to the eloquent defiance of the Declaration of Arbroath, from castle sieges to diplomatic intrigue, Echoes of Independence chronicles the birth of a nation through the eyes of those who bled for it. This sweeping epic spans generations, following warriors, lovers, and visionaries as they forge Scotland’s freedom in fire and sacrifice.

Some legacies are written in blood. Some are written in the hearts of the free.

Perfect for readers who loved OutlanderThe Pillars of the Earth, and Braveheart.

PROLOGUE

FORT SEGEDUNUM, HADRIAN’S WALL

BRITANNIA SUPERIOR, ROMAN EMPIRE

MARCH, 367 AD

The wind came off the northern hills like the breath of some ancient god, cold and relentless, carrying with it the scent of heather and distant rain. Centurion Marcus Corvus stood at the window of the principia, the headquarters building of Fort Segedunum, and watched the grey clouds mass above the Wall. Twenty

years on this frontier had taught him to read the weather as well as any Pictish shaman—and what he saw now promised storms.

Behind him, the brazier crackled and spat, its warmth barely reaching the stone walls that had stood sentinel at the eastern terminus of Hadrian’s Wall for more than two centuries. The fort had been built to last, its massive blocks of dressed stone fitted so precisely that a knife blade couldn’t slip between them. Yet for all its permanence, Marcus knew that empires were more fragile than stone. They depended on men—and men could be broken, corrupted, or simply made to look the other way at the wrong moment.

He turned from the window as footsteps echoed in the corridor outside. Heavy boots on flagstones, accompanied by the jingle of military harness and the murmur of voices. Marcus straightened instinctively, his hand moving to adjust the leather balteus that crossed his chest, checking that his pugio sat properly at his hip. Old habits. A soldier’s habits.

The door opened without ceremony.

Legatus Artorius Castor entered like a man who owned not just the room but the entire northern frontier. He was tall, broad-shouldered, his face bearing the kind of patrician features that spoke of generations of senatorial privilege. His armour was parade-ground perfect—polished lorica segmentata that had probably never seen real combat, a crimson cloak fastened with an ornate fibula that cost more than Marcus earned in a year. Behind him came two tribunes, younger men with the same air of entitled confidence, and a secretary clutching wax tablets.

Marcus saluted, fist to chest. “Legatus.”

Castor acknowledged the gesture with a slight nod, his eyes already scanning the room as if assessing its worth. “Centurion Corvus. I understand you requested this meeting with some urgency.” His tone suggested that urgency was a relative concept, and that whatever Marcus had to say had better justify interrupting the legatus’s schedule.

“Yes, sir. Intelligence from beyond the Wall. The situation has changed significantly in the past month.”

Castor moved to the table that dominated the center of the room, where Marcus had laid out his maps. They were good maps, better than the official ones issued by the provincial administration. Marcus had spent years refining them, adding details gleaned from countless reconnaissance missions—the locations of Pictish settlements, the paths through the forests, the river crossings, the places where an army could move unseen.

About Me

A little rundown of what i write and why.

William Pow

Author/Writer

My fascination with history began early and has only grown stronger over the last twenty years. I’ve always believed that the past isn’t just a collection of dry dates, timelines, and forgotten names – it is a vast, living tapestry of real human emotions, moral dilemmas, and epic struggles.

When I step into the realm of historical fiction, my goal is to transport my readers across centuries. I take immense pride in blending rigorous historical accuracy with vivid, character-driven narrative arcs. Whether I am exploring the grit and clash of ancient battlefields, the subtle political intrigue of historical courts, or the quiet struggles of everyday people living through transformative eras, I strive to make history feel alive, visceral, and deeply personal. Every detail – from the weight of a sword to the scent of woodsmoke in a medieval village – is chosen to give readers an authentic, sensory journey into another time.

Embracing the Undead: The Thrill of Zombie Fiction

If historical fiction allows me to explore where humanity has been, zombie fiction gives me the complete freedom to test humanity at its absolute limit. I’ll be the first to admit: writing zombie survival stories is an absolute blast.

There is an incredible narrative energy in post-apocalyptic horror. When society collapses, modern conveniences disappear, and survival becomes the singular imperative, who do we become? For over twenty years, I’ve loved building world-ending scenarios populated by grounded, relatable characters facing impossible odds. My zombie fiction isn’t just about blood and monsters; it’s about hope, ingenuity, camaraderie, dark humor, and the invincible spirit of survivors fighting for one more day.

Combining my background in historical research with apocalyptic fiction allows me to bring a unique level of realism to my zombie worlds. I love examining how societies break down, how old-world crafting and survival methods become essential again, and how ordinary people rise to meet extraordinary chaos.

Bunker z: Last Stand Against the Dead

When the dead rose, 237 survivors sealed themselves in Bunker Z—a twelve-level underground fortress designed to outlast the apocalypse. Eight years later, they’re running out of time. Food reserves are critical. Medical supplies are gone. And the only way to survive is to venture into a dead world where intelligent infected hunt in coordinated packs.

But the real threat isn’t above. It’s below.

Level 12 has been sealed since the beginning, its contents locked away by the bunker’s architects for reasons no one will explain. As resources dwindle and leadership fractures, the seal begins to fail. What emerges isn’t just infected—it’s something that thinks, plans, and communicates. Something that challenges everything humanity believes about survival and evolution.

When the barrier between the living and the evolved breaks down, Maya Grant and her team must confront an impossible truth: the infected aren’t the enemy. They’re the future. And humanity must choose between extinction and transformation.

In the depths below, a new world is awakening. The question is whether humanity will survive to see it.
